A couple of weeks ago, I wrote an opinion article about Charlotte’s Technology Community for Charlotte Viewpoint.
First bit of advice this week: Never read the comments. No, really, never. Don’t do it.
Sure, some people will agree with you, and they might take the time to write nice, happy comments to prove it.
But some people will will not agree with you, and might decide to vocalize their sentiments in the comments section. I’m all for people disagreeing with me, by the way - in fact, I rather enjoy a bit of discussion.
But every once in a while you have someone who goes out of their way to be nasty. Truth is, you can’t make everyone happy, especially grumpy people who have to hide behind pseudonyms.
If you’re lucky, people you hardly know (if at all) will defend you, but even then, angry people can’t always be cooled down.
If there’s a lesson to be learned here, it’s simply this: there will always be people who are wrong on the Internet. Don’t take it personally - if they can’t muster up the courage to adress you personally and professionally, then you shouldn’t waste your time worrying about them.
