Look - it’s no secret: Smart Latinas are busy. Very busy.
It’s tough to be Superwoman with class, style, and charm. Proving you’re worthy of people’s attention, providing for your family, and pushing yourself to the limit - every day, gets to be exhausting after a while.
But it’s easy to think that you have to do it, continuously, on end, for the rest of your life. It’s easy to fall into the habit of waking up every morning, putting on your cape, and using your super powers until you crash into bed later that night.
Unfortunately, no one can sustain that kind of high energy forever. (Believe me, I wish I could, as do a LOT of other people.)
Take. A. Break.
Studies (and my own personal experience) have shown that people who take breaks are happier. It’s easy to lose perspective when you’re stressed out. And people get sick more often when they focus more on their work than their bodies.
The worst part, though, is the burnout. You drive yourself so hard for so long, your brain and body decide they’re done. (And they never ask for permission!) The folks with grand positions in high finance who decide to quit and take up residence in an old VW van by the river? Generally, that’s due to extreme burnout. Don’t force yourself to stop doing all the great work you’re doing every day because you can’t stop doing a little bit of work every once in a while.
Instead: Watch a movie. Go out to dinner with some friends. Sleep in on a Saturday (or a Sunday, or both)! Take an art class. Do some yoga. Whatever gets your pulse down to normal - do it.
Your mind, body, and spirit will thank you later.
